Fundraising for Assert

ASSERT relies solely on donations and fundraising to fund all the excellent work. Therefore our army of fundraisers are very important to us. Every penny really does make a difference; so if you are thinking of raising some funds for us, please get in touch. The most common way of fundraising is usually to do a sporting event such as a run or walk or bike ride etc and ask family and friends to sponsor you. This can be using sponsor forms, or you can set up a donation page on Virgin Giving or Just Giving (ASSERT are registered with both). We have also had funds raised by coffee mornings, football matches, cricket matches, hair cuts, conker competitions … The rule is – there are no rules. You are very welcome to raise funds in whatever way you would like. ASSERT can provide some promotional items such as information leaflets, balloons, pens. We can also provide larger posters and banners depending on the event. ASSERT running vests are also sent out to anyone who is taking part in a suitable sporting event.

Donations

Click on the links below to explore the different ways you can donate.

Gift Aid

gift_aid_blackGift Aid is a scheme operated by the UK Government which allows registered charities to reclaim the tax paid on any donation amount.

In other words, for every pound donated, Assert will receive an additional twenty eight pence from the tax man, at no additional cost to the donor/sponsor.

To qualify for this rebate, any sponsor or donor must be over 18, paying income tax and living in the UK. All of the details on the sponsorship form must be completed (and the gift aid box ticked). We will then send the completed forms to the Inland Revenue and receive the additional income. You need not do anything except explain about gift aid to those for whom it is relevant and encourage them to complete the form fully (but only if they are happy to do so).

Virgin Giving

virgin_giving_logoAs an alternative to the JustGiving site (see above), we are also registered with the VirginGiving website: www.virginmoneygiving.com which also allows potential fundraisers to create a free internet page to publicize their event along with an online sponsor form.

Payments can be made using a secure server for credit and debit cards, the money being automatically transferred to Assert. Donations can also be made by credit and debit card. The Government’s Gift Aid is reclaimed automatically on these amounts, out of which the website takes a very small fee. Virgin Giving pride themselves on being a not-for-profit site so their charges are as low as they can make them. The instructions are very user friendly, and you’ll be up and running in just a few minutes.

For some people this is a very useful tool in their fundraising efforts, particularly if contemplating taking part in a large event such as the London Marathon. If you have any questions at all, please use our usual contact details.
